Sharing a write-up on some interesting activities of Nirmala Niketan Senior Citizens Social Work Alumni Association (NNSCSWAA) in Mumbai which contributes towards promotion of active and productive ageing in India. This write-up is written and shared by Mr. Philo Gonsalves, President, NNSCSWAA.

The Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work, Mumbai, conducts a special course for senior citizens. It is a three months certificate course in Social Work recognized by the University of Mumbai. On completion of the course, the participants enroll themselves in the Nirmala Niketan Senior Citizens Social Work Alumni Association. This association was founded in 2003 and today boasts of over 150 life members.

The meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month. Resource persons are invited to speak on topics ranging from health, diet and nutrition of senior citizens to social welfare of women, children and the less privileged. Visits to NGOs and picnics are organized and an annual get-together is held every year.

At the Annual Day, members are encouraged to showcase their talents in dance, music and other performing arts. Some seniors and achievers are also felicitated on this occasion. Games are played and prizes are distributed. It is truly a fun filled morning ending with a sumptuous lunch. This year the Annual Day was held on the 10th March and in keeping with the previous years, it truly was a memorable morning.
