Our Amazing Travel Story

My wife and I had been to England before, individually, and together, but those were short trips, leaving us with a thirst for a much deeper visit exploring the length and breadth of the UK and combining it with Ireland as well.

So, we embarked on a 20 day tour with COSMOS, our favourite tour operator, that was a year-long in planning, and covered England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland in a round trip from London to London.

For me, particularly, the planning required dovetailing of places that were not on the tour Operator COSMOS’s Itinerary which I dearly wanted to see for fulfilling my dreams. So, I finally got the opportunity to fulfill my long-term wishes by:

  • Visiting Liverpool for an entire day to see the Beatles Exhibition replete with their History, from the time I first listened to their “I want to hold your hand” in 1964, and became part of the Beatlemania, then their Residences, the Schools they went to, the Lanes (like Penny Lane) after which they named their songs, the Cavern where they played as a Band and became famous, and, of course, buying Souvenirs and Music.
  • Visiting Wimbledon, the pinnacle of Tennis.
  • Visiting Lord’s, the Home of Cricket.
  • Visiting St.Andrews Golf Course in Scotland, the Home of Golf.
  • Visiting Stratford – upon- Avon, to see Shakespeare’s birthplace.

The London Underground, or The Tube, as it is popularly called, is easily the best Suburban Metro Train System in the whole world. Brilliantly interconnected, safe, comfortable, and so easy to follow for a layman too! As the saying goes,” You can’t beat the System”.

The major places we visited in this tour were:

ENGLAND: London, Stonehenge, Plymouth, Glastonbury, Bath, Chester, Liverpool, The Lake District, Gretna Green, York, Sheffield.

WALES: Cardiff, Tenby, Pembroke.

IRELAND: Tramore, Blarney, Killarney, Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Dublin.

SCOTLAND: Glasgow, Fort William, Inverness, Culloden Moor, Grantown – on – Spey, Pitlochry, Dundee, St.Andrews, Edinburgh.

We had Companions on our Coach from Australia, Canada, USA, and Philippines. A great way to make friends globally.

We covered over 2700 km, mostly by Coach, and partly by Ferry – from Wales to Ireland, and Ireland into England.

Of all the Countries / Places we visited, we were pleasantly struck by the beauty of Ireland.

Overall, it was a lovely Trip at a relaxed pace, in cool springtime weather.
