Memoir: Where all my music travelled

In 1965 we came from Myanmar after there was a Revolutionary Government, and since the businesses and shops werenationalised, most of the foreigners made way either to England, Austria, and India.

My parents came to Amritsar in April 1965.Although it was late for admission, I somehow managed to get admission in Pre university Prep as it was called, very soon became popular because I played few songs on my harmonica and Spanish Guitar.

By this time 1965 end war started with Pakistan and since NCC was compulsory I was made to wear khaki pant and grey coarse shirt with a lathi and a whistle to watch infiltrators at night. It was a new experience for me as I had spent a peaceful life in Myanmar it was a sudden change.

After some days it was announced that we had won the war and our forces have entered the Pakistan border and near Ichogil canal, Lahore and before their retreat they have to be entertained.

In our college a bhagra team was made for this purpose, and to my surprise my name was also there. Our principal Mr.Prem Singh led the team.Early morning we were all ushered in a military truck which was supposed to take us to the venue. It was a beautiful sight everyone rejoicing, then began bhangra, everyone dancing with bottle in their hands and General Rajinder Singh was all delighted.

Then my turn came I played few Bollywood old songs and played guitar to accompany few soldiers who sang with full throttle.

It was time for lunch and I could see everyone in high spirits including our principal. One officer was trailing me with a bottle but I somehow escaped.

It was time for us to come back to Amritsar, so the Principal started counting if all 22of us are there, he counted many times and came out 21 only..... he was totally drunk and was not counting himself, so I asked him if I can help him counting, he relented and I counted all 22.We were all packed like sheep as earlier, in the military truck and taken to Amritsar.

Then I happened to play in Kirori Mal College; Delhi University, Yuvvani, other colleges and Shree Mataji's programs (Sahaja Yoga) and so on.

Now in Mumbai I represent (MOM) Mouth Organists Mumbai and play on all imminent and popular platforms and also at the Vartak nagar centre Thane West. Let's see where does my music travel from here.
