My Spiritual Journey

My name is Harish Chandra Singh, I am a 73 year old Retired Chief Engineer from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, Prayagraj (Allahabad). I passed BE in Electrical Engineering in first division in 1969 from MNNIT, Prayagraj.

Hobbies & Interest

I am fond of reading spiritual and religious books , writing articles on spiritual matter specially based on Shree Ramcharit Manas , singing old songs and bhajans, gardening , social welfare, touring of spiritual places and promoting agricultural activities.

My favourite actor is Amitabh Bachchan and favourite actress is Hema Malini. I loved watching their movies in my young age and still enjoy it during free time.

Family

In my family, I have an understanding and caring wife Urmila who is 3 years younger to me. We have three loving children, two sons and one daughter. They all are well settled with their respective family.

My father Late Mr. Ram Nath Singh and my mother Late Mrs. Chandrakali Devi were both spiritually inclined in their life. Due to this, I am also spiritually inclined towards things in life.

Childhood Experience to Cherish

My father was a farmer with a limited income to run the family. When I was in school I had to walk 2 kms everyday to attend the school. Despite of the financial constraints my interest in studies always kept me motivated to be regular in school and get good marks. I still remember how my teachers came to my house and honoured my parents along with praising me for coming 1st in my class.

That moment is very close to my heart not because I scored good marks but because my parents felt proud of me.

Struggles & Achievements

There were many painful and difficult moments in my life which literally broke me. I lost my younger brother in 1961 when he was only 8 year old. My parents were inconsolable after that. I lost my youngest son at the age of 16 years. He was a patient of an incurable decease named “Aplastic Anemia”. I could not save him though I tried my best to provide him the best possible treatment in AIIMS, New Delhi. My wife was very much perturbed for 3-4 years after his death. I lost my beloved mother in a young age. All these incidents broke me from inside but I had to stay strong as my family was dependent on me.

Despite of the tragedies in my life I kept my faith in God and moved ahead both personally and professionally. Due to God’s grace and my hard work I got promoted to the highest posts of Chief Engineer Level 1 in UPPCL and retired from this post in 2005.

Active Lifestyle

People say that life becomes very boring and meaningless post retirement but my views are very different on this. I feel that post retirement we get the time to pursue things of our interest which we were not been able to pursue earlier due to professional responsibilities. After my retirement I am associated with various organizations where I am handling various roles and responsibilities like:

  • General Secretary, Chinmaya Mission Prayag. In this role, I am promoting my spiritual wellbeing as well as wellbeing of others.
  • Patron , U.P. Vidhyut Pensioner’s Parishad , Prayagraj Branch, for looking after all matters of pensioners retired from U.P. Power Corporation
  • President, IET (Institute of Engineering Technology) related to Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology, Deemed University.
  • Senior Vice President, U3A Govindpur, Prayagraj (Third Age University of Life Long Learning). It is an International forum of Senior Citizens.
  • Vice President, AGSS (Allahabad Gramin Sewa Sansthan ), where I am looking after the development of underprivileged people in rural areas of Prayagraj.
  • These roles and responsibilities are not only helping me in doing something meaningful for the society but also makes me lead an active and healthy life physically, psychologically as well as socially.

    My Message

I feel that in today’s competitive world people have become very self centered. This is not the right approach according to me. We all must help others in need and be polite to each other. We must also be thankful to God for giving us this life, so we should make it meaningful for our self and for others too.

I also feel that the educational system of India must be reformed to the extent that a poor man can also afford education at par with a rich and higher class person.

My heart pains when I hear about farmers committing suicide. I appeal to everyone to contribute towards solving the difficulties of farmers and poor people.
